Baby Dies After DPT Vaccine

A two-month-old baby boy died within 10 hours of being administered a shot of DPT vaccine at a medical camp in Srikakulam district on Wednesday.

The boy, Savara Praveen, died at his home in Savara Jhoudupally of the Maoist-infested Meliaput mandal, about 175 km from the district headquarters, on the Orissa border. The infant was among 15 others who were given a DPT shot on Wednesday morning. But sources said the boy was given hepatitis-B vaccine along with the DPT shot.

Family members said Praveen started frothing at the mouth, turned blue and died around 5.30 pm. Sources said Praveen, who was born on June 2, was administered the vaccination by a health worker of Asha. The boy's parents -- Savara Janu and Annapoorna -- are farm labourers belonging to the tribal community.

The child was doing well for the first few hours after the vaccination, but cried a lot in the afternoon, and by evening, he died. What worsened the matter was that there was no provision to take the baby boy to a nearby hospital. "We did not plan for an ambulance or medical support," a health official said, adding that it was supposed to be a routine programme of immunisation where nearly 10,000 kids were given the DPT shots.

Editor's Comment: That is medical malpractice because facilities should always be present to cope with emergencies after vaccination, for instance, adrenaline. Even though many children have no noticeable affects, doctors know vaccines can kill

So to vaccinate knowing that they can't get children to the hospital is in my opinion, criminal.

Severe Allergic Reaction to Pertussis Vaccine

In May 2004, my normal, healthy 2-month-old niece received the combined vaccine for diptheria, tetanus and pertussis. When she got home, she fell into a deep sleep for three hours. When she woke up, she proceeded to scream — an intense, blood-curdling scream — for three hours non-stop, and she would not be consoled.

She recovered, but in July 2004, at her 4-month appointment, she got the shot again. That evening, when my sister-in-law changed the baby’s diaper, my niece went completely limp. Her eyes were unresponsive. She began wheezing and having a hard time breathing and developed a fever. My brother and sister-in-law took her to the emergency room, and again she recovered except for a slight fever.

She was fine for 10 days, and then it all happened again. So they took her to the doctor and he admitted her to the hospital, where they monitored her all night. She continued to struggle with responsiveness until the next day. Finally, the doctor contacted a specialist and concluded that it was a reaction to the pertussis vaccination.

Parents who have taken their babies to doctors know that they will be encouraged to vaccinate their children. It makes sense, since the vaccines are produced for the purpose of defending our children from a host of mild to outright deadly diseases. I appreciate all doctors and nurses, who spend thousands of dollars and years of training to fight for our health and good quality of life.

I am scared to death for Alaska’s children, who face not only a massive vaccine schedule but also a future of ever-increasing vaccines, with no set limit. When is it ever going to be enough? There are warning labels for every shot, with possible severe, debilitating side-effects, and today’s babies get several in one appointment.

Being a parent isn’t easy. It’s always a good idea to read labels and ingredients on products that enter a child’s body, especially a vulnerable baby. I think most people would be shocked and surprised at what they discover. How nice it would be if doctors would actually educate parents about the not-so-rare side effects of vaccinations.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requires a warning label on all vaccinations. Below are specific examples of some warnings from the CDC and/or drug manufacturers.

For the diptheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine —

• Any child who had a life-threatening allergic reaction after a dose of DTaP should not get another dose.

• Any child who suffered a brain or nervous system disease seven days after a dose of DTaP should not get another dose.

• Talk with your doctor if your child: Had a seizure or collapsed after a dose of DTaP, cried non-stop for three hours or more after a dose of DTaP or had a fever of over 105 degrees Fahrenheit after a dose of DTaP.
